STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND COMMITMENT
In an age and society that is rapidly changing due to an explosion of
information, technological breakthroughs and high speed communications there is
a need for continuous assessment and evaluation of all institutions. Of all
institutions that exist, schools have a high duty and great responsibility to
ensure that they are engaged in a process of continuous assessment and
evaluation given their challenge to prepare young people for the future.
As with everything else that is changing in our society so are the roles of the
various actors in the educational process. At one time the oversight role for
assessment and evaluation of nonpublic schools rested in state education
agencies. Today, many states have returned that assessment and evaluation role
to the nonpublic school community.
The establishment of the National Federation of Nonpublic School State
Accrediting Associations was a response to that changing reality as well as the
need felt by the nonpublic school community to find ways to maintain and enhance
their history of quality education.
The mission of the National Federation is to ensure that State Nonpublic School
Accrediting Associations are focused and committed to enhancing the quality of
education in nonpublic schools. This is accomplished through ongoing and
continuous assessment and evaluation of the accreditation processes developed
and used in the member states of the Federation.
Our commitment to quality education is twofold:
First, to the students who attend nonpublic schools we commit ourselves to
ensuring that they are provided with the educational experiences and skills
necessary to face the challenges of the twenty-first century, and
Second, to their parents, the community and state legislatures we commit
ourselves to ensuring that the potential exists in nonpublic school to offer
each child a quality education.
